To the Joy of Our World-
At five months, you....
- Have an absolutely infectious giggle. You laugh a lot, escpecially when Daddy smothers your neck. You still have the most darling dimples that come out when your face lights up in a smile.
- Look like a balding old man, but in reverse! You are losing a ton of hair inthe back and on the sides. It is hilarious!
- Are really grabbing for your toys now.it is fun to see how much more control you gain, week by week, as you workon those motor skills.
- Love your baths! You splash around a little, but mostly just eat your hand and coo, all the while ingesting mass quantities of bubbles. Thank God for organic stuff. :)
- Are still exclusively breast-fed... but not for long. I can't keep up with you once I am back to school, so you will have your first bottle of formula in a few weeks. I'm dreading it, but I know it is unavoidable. Although you will still nurse for 4 out of five feedings a day, I wanted to keep you on just breastmilk til 1 year, but I am doing the best I can. You will also be starting rice cereal soon! Then, I will venture into making home-made babyfood. I can't WAIT to do this! For all of you nay-sayers who think I won't really do it- you also said the cloth diapers would never last, and here we are, five months later, with a cotton baby. Just sayin....
- Drool like nobody's buisness. Between that and your oral fixation, everyone says you are teething, but we can't feel it.
- Sit up like a champ now, and roll over both ways all the time. In fact, you woke yourself up twice last night cause you had rolled over and got yourself stuck in your crib. Woops. You still love to stand up, and you are pulling your neck and chest off the floor like you are doing sit-ups when you want to get up.
- Suck your thumb like a big girl. As soon as we lay you down for a nap or bedtime, you shove that little thumb right in there, and soothe yourself to dreamland. your Daddy and I sneek in to see you just about every night before we go to bed, and you often still have it in your mouth. :)
- Still sleep really well and are on a very predictable (most of the time) schedule. You usually wake up around 6 to eat, then I bring you into bed and nurse you as we cuddle, then you go back down til about 7:30. You eat again at 9, then nap til about 10:30, eat at noon, nap from about 1-3, eat at 4, then you get a bath at 7 ish, nurse one last time, and go down til about 6, and we do it all over again! Sometimes you really need a little cat-nap around 5 to make it til bedtime, but we are trying to wean you off that nap with lots of distraction. We shall see how this all goes down when you are in day care in a month. Booo.
- Are still obsessed with Baby Beluga. It is actually getting frightening.... it is, at times, the only thing that calms you. If you are crabby in the car, we sing it to you. When you are fussy, I whisper it in your ear to soothe you. It still makes you smile, too. Hey, whatever works, right? :)
- Have become so much more alert. You love to look around and see what is happening. You have never been one for being held laying down- you like to be nosy and see the action. Sometimes when you are nursing, You pull off every few seconds to see where any noise is coming from. Goof ball...
- Like to look at other little people and in the mirror. It's pretty cute when you burst into a huge smile when you see yourself.
- Your Dad and I love your noises. You make this high pitched, shrill sound when you are fussy or tired. It sounds like a mutilated hyena... hilarious! It is so loud and obnoxious, and cracks us up every time.
- Are having your first weekend long sleepover at Nonnie and Papo's this weekend so Daddy and I can go to Cheesecamp with your "Aunts" and "Uncles". I know I am going to miss you a lot, but I also know how fun it will be to see you after 48 hours!!!!
- You are still the best thing ever. We just can't get enough of you. My wish for everyone in the world is to know the kind of true joy I feel when I look at you. I don't care how cheesy it sounds- you are a dream come true.
